Proco Joe Moreno was inaugurated as the Alderman of Chicago’s 1st Ward on March 26, 2010.
Joe was born in Moline, IL to working class parents who taught him the importance of perseverance and the value of giving back to one’s community.
After graduating from Moline High School, Joe went onto Augustana College to study Business and Art. Joe has been a resident of the Wicker Park neighborhood for more than 14 years, moving here after graduating college. During this time he has worked closely with residents and civic leaders on a variety of significant issues.
As an elected member of the Local School Council for Jose De Diego Community Academy, Joe worked directly with parents, faculty members and residents in the 1st Ward to strengthen the school.
Sitting on the board of Humboldt Park Social Services, an organization designed to empower, serve and advocate for the homeless and disadvantaged in the Humboldt Park community, Joe helped to increase the organization’s exposure and financial strength.
Throughout his time in Chicago, Joe has also been an active participant in the CAPS program, focusing on community involvement and public safety.
After college Joe worked at a suburban union printing company, eventually becoming Vice President before being called to public service. He received an M.B.A. from DePaul University in 2003. Joe’s business background, combined with his community activism experience, will be unique in the Chicago City Council.
As Alderman, Joe will continue to look for community-based solutions to solve our biggest challenges. Joe will be a strong and independent advocate for the people of the 1st Ward in the Chicago City Council.
As the youngest serving Alderman, Joe will first and foremost focus on constituent services, public safety and building the 1st Ward business community.
Joe lives in Wicker Park with his seven year old daughter, Ava, and in his spare time enjoys jogging the streets of Chicago’s greatest ward.
